Gone are the days when HR's job revolved around the onboarding and off boarding of employees. Today, HRs are handling many aspects, for example, listening to the concerns of employees, team leaders, and managers; resolving conflicts; promoting positive work culture; conducting team-building activities; encouraging ethical guidelines, etc.

Today, we are discussing team-building activities. It promotes teamwork, eases collaboration, and enhances out-of-the-box thinking. It gives employees a platform to express themselves and showcase their fun side. It helps understand the strengths and weaknesses of team members, facilitates job allocation, and builds teams.

These activities are planned and executed with clear parameters, objectives, and goals. Every team has some concerns that are addressed and resolved.

Let's discuss five team-building activities.

Flying Pen

Objective: Team coordination and trust

The flying pen, as the name suggests, writes without touching the ground. All participants form teams. Each team is assigned to write a simple word by tying threads around the pen. Each thread is in the hands of one team member. The idea is to write a word within the time limit. The trick is that the pen shouldn't touch the ground. The team that writes the word in the shortest duration is the winner.

Bridge Crossing

Objective: Decision Making and Time Management

Bridge crossing is a fun activity where team members have to cross a river or a gap with the help of three bricks or three A4 papers without stepping outside. It requires analytical thinking and strategic planning to win. A few rules can be added, for example, no speaking, setting a time limit for completion, etc.

Two Truths and a Lie

Objective: Acts as an icebreaker and brings the team closer

It's a popular icebreaking activity wherein all team members sit in a circle and, one by one, tell two truths and one lie about themselves. Team members have to guess the lie. It helps bring team members closer and creates a sense of belonging among the new team members. It helps revive marred relationships due to official conflicts and disagreements. It helps them to reconnect.

Human Knot

Objective: Teamwork and out-of-the-box thinking

As the name suggests, a few team members form a circle and tangle their hands into a knot, as shown in the picture. The motive is to untangle without letting go of each other. The team members can duck under, step over, or even rotate to untangle themselves. This activity encourages all the team members to think critically and encourages participation.

Office Trivia

Objective: Emphasis on the knowledge

This activity prioritises knowing about the company we work for, facts and figures, and building a healthy relationship among team members. All the participants form two teams. A host (generally a team leader) asks questions one by one. The team answering all questions correctly is the winner. There can be a rapid-fire round of ten seconds.

This activity helps employees to know about their company. After selecting the team-building activities, HR circulates an email stating the time, day, and venue of the activities.

During activities, HR personnel note the responses and reactions of employees and declare winners. The winners get prizes, vouchers, coupons, and gift cards.
